Hayward Field will once again be the site of a global track and field event, as the World Athletics Council announced that Eugene will be the host of the World Athletics U20 Championships in 2026. Oregon athletes have been able to make frequent appearances at the World Athletics U20 Championships, with the 2022 games showcasing high school athletes such as Lake Oswego’s Mia Brahe-Pedersen, Crater’s Tyrone Gorze and Oregon City’s Sophia Beckmon. Saturday was a big day for baseball in the Portland area. It just so happens that the big event for baseball happened all the way in Jamestown, New York. The Portland U15 Babe Ruth baseball team beat a team from Connecticut 6-4 on Saturday to win the 13–15-year-old Babe Ruth World Series. Most of those homegrown kids have been playing baseball together on this team since they were 7 years old– over half of their lives.
