Originally called the West Coast National Championships, it was quickly rebranded to give it a more appropriate feel for an early summer event. Many teams were not quite ready for a “National Championship” right out of the gate, so the event focused more on kicking off the summer, rather than proclaiming greatness out of the shoot.
