Applewood Estate has opened, the Huckleberry Railroad is running, and the birds are chirping at For-Mar Nature Preserve. That must mean that summer is upon us in Flint & Genesee. As early summer comes, so does outdoor recreation, music on the patio, and time spent with family and friends. You can find all of that and more in Flint & Genesee.
“We have plenty of activities for individuals, families, and friends to do in Genesee County,” says Amari Steward. “Whether locals are just looking for a fun day or out-of-towners want a weekend of summer activities, our team at Explore Flint & Genesee has curated itineraries so you don’t even have to plan.”
These “Trip Ideas” are available on the Explore Flint & Genesee website and range from a nostalgic weekend to a tour of the craft beverage scene in Genesee County.
For example, in Explore Nostalgia in Flint & Genesee, locals or visitors can start a Friday night at Mario’s Restaurant & Pizzeria for locally iconic pizza, then head across the street to the US 23 Digital Drive-In Theater, one of the few remaining in Michigan, for a double feature. The next day, folks can grab a classic coney breakfast at Gillie’s Coney Island before heading to Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad for a view of the turn-of-the-last-century mill town.
On the other end, those of drinking age can participate in the Explore the Craft Beverage Scene tour, which takes you from Fenton Winery & Brewery/Dream Machine Distillery to Spicer Winery Tasting Room, then to Redline Brewing Company in Burton and Tenacity Brewing in Flint, ending at Almar Orchard in Flushing.
These tours, along with others like a family weekend, an outdoor adventure, a history tour, and a folk and jazz tour, provide a framework for visitors or locals who just want a weekend of fun.
