Why We Built Compass
The DMO industry is facing the defining challenge of our time.
AI is reshaping how people discover information, and traditional website traffic is declining. Yet DMOs still hold one powerful advantage no algorithm can replace: your relationships with event organizers who directly influence their attendees.
Event-based visitors are highly engaged, identifiable, and actively seeking information — and organizers are looking for simple ways to enhance their event experience. DMOs are uniquely positioned to deliver this value.
We built Compass to unlock this opportunity: to bring your content, your voice, and your local experiences directly into the event journey, and to guide visitors at the moments that matter most — while they’re planning their trip and while they’re inside the venue.
This presentation outlines our strategy for helping destinations harness the full potential of their event-based visitors while giving organizers an experience they’re proud to share.
What is Compass?
Compass is your event-based visitor engagement hub — powered by your website content and AI. It delivers custom event experiences with live hotel booking, room blocks, an AI event concierge, and destination planning tools — all embedded directly into event organizer websites to drive traffic and visitor engagement data back to your destination.
The Key Differentiators of Compass
Compass was built around one central idea: destinations need a new, portable way to deliver their content to visitors — anywhere they’re planning, searching, or exploring. To make that possible, Compass had to do three things no one else is doing:
1. Bring your website content into a blended UI + AI experience.
Your content remains the anchor. Compass pulls it into an interactive, modern interface powered by AI — without replacing your website or rewriting your identity. It elevates what you’ve already built.
2. Link back to your website at every turn.
Compass opens new pathways, not new silos. Every recommendation, every business, every experience connects visitors back to your owned website, restoring the visibility AI is taking away.
3. Allow you to embed this experience anywhere externally.
Visitors shouldn’t need to find your website first — your content should meet them where they already are. Compass acts like a portable “website-in-a-box,” customizable to fit any partner site, event, attraction, or digital touchpoint, and always branded to look and feel like you.
This is not an AI chatbot you buy and stick on your website. If visitors aren’t reaching your website anymore, a better website experience doesn’t solve the visibility problem. Compass was built for the real challenge: opening new traffic channels back to you.

The Core Visibility Problem Compass Solves
If search is no longer bringing visitors to your site, the DMO risks being cut out of the visitor journey entirely. Without a direct traffic path, your voice fades — and with it, the cultural insight that only a local expert can provide.
To fix this, we needed to rethink distribution from the ground up.
We needed to:
- Create a portable destination experience that carries your content anywhere visitors are.
- Integrate your website directly into this portable experience, not replace it.
- Link out to your content so visibility flows back to you.
- Allow flexible embedding across the web so you can partner, promote, and distribute without friction.
- Make it fully customizable so it always reflects your identity and brand.
- Build it to feel like an extension of your destination, not a generic tech layer.
With Compass, visitors don’t have to come find you — you can reach them directly.
Our Intention: Protecting the Voice of the DMO
Google’s AI experiences are keeping users on Google, not sending them to websites. That may help their bottom line, but it puts thousands of organizations at risk, and DMO visibility is among the most vulnerable.
At the same time, many organizations in this space are private-equity backed. As DMO reach declines, they see an opportunity to use your content to build larger platforms, eventually replacing your voice with their own.
Playeasy is not backed by private equity, and we’re not building for an exit. We built Playeasy, and now Compass, to be a long-term home for destinations. Your success is directly tied to ours.
Compass is built to solve today’s visibility challenges while protecting your future — keeping destinations influential, discoverable, and in control.
The world still needs local experts.
Visitors still need authentic culture.
Destinations still deserve to be heard.
