Air Race

  • Space Type: Flight course
  • Space Requirements: 
  • Multiple airport stops along a set course equipped with suitable runway space.
  • Number of People who Play: Individual and team competitions.
  • Fun Fact: Air racing dates back to 1909, when early pilots used racing to test airplanes. The first international meet took place in Reims, France.

Archery

  • Space Type: Roving Course (Field Archery) or Archery Range (Target Archery)
  • Space Requirements: 
    Field Archery: Shooting lanes must be set so that any arrows that miss the target will not enter an area with other archers or spectators. Targets should be placed on top of a rise where archers cannot see where missed arrows will travel.
    Target Archery: a grass sports field that is 124 yds x 41 yds when there is no backstop and 43 yds x 21 yds when a backstop is used.  
  • Number of People who Play: Individual and team competitions.
  • Fun Fact: Archery was included as an Olympic sport for women in 1904 – one of the earliest sports to do so!

Artistic Swimming

  • Space Type: Pool
  • Space Requirements: The pool must be at least 3m deep, 20m wide, and 25m long.
  • Number of People who Play: Duet (two athletes) Team (8 athletes)
  • Fun Fact: A key requirement of Artistic Swimming is for athletes to complete routines while underwater for an extended period of time. Some athletes can perform leg techniques while holding their breath for more than 30 seconds!

Australian Football

  • Space Type: Field
  • Space Requirements: Oval field that is 135m to 185m long and 110m to 155m wide
  • Number of People who Play: Two teams of 18
  • Fun Fact: Australian Football (Australian rules) is the most popular spectator sport and most viewed Badminton shuttles can reach over 200 mph!

Badminton

  • Space Type: Indoor or outdoor multipurpose area
  • Space Requirements: Flat area that allows for a 44 ft x 20 ft court with 30 ft of vertical clearance. 5 ft badminton net in the center of the court.
  • Number of People who Play: 2 – 4
  • Fun Fact: Badminton shuttles can reach over 200 mph!
